About The Artist
I've been a musician all of my life, and a songwriter for the last 30 years. In my school days, I played the organ for church and the piano for school assemblies and musicals. That morphed into community theater, where I served as accompanist and musical director for dozens of musicals, from Oklahoma! to Jesus Christ Superstar. In 1997, I became the songwriter for Encore Theatre, an Oregon-based company of amazing elders who created shows about their own life events and performed them free for kids in schools, community centers and detention facilities. (Think "Young at Heart" with original music!) This remarkable project lasted until 2005, reaching about 80,000 kids and showcasing the talents of almost 100 seniors. Every show was filled with stories and songs about the lives of the performers, and every word of every song and story was true.
This experience taught me a lot about the value of honesty and the power of music to make some difficult topics easier to express and hear. It also helped me find my songwriting voice! This led straight into tribute songs: Encore elders began receiving special songs on milestone birthdays, and then started asking me to write birthday songs for their grandchildren as well. Other friends needed songs for other occasions, and eventually I decided to open a musical door to the wider world.
I've looked at a lot of "custom" and "personalized" song websites in the process of creating this one. Many of them tout their professional credentials. I simply provide a one-on-one, personal creative service: I will listen to you, ask a lot of questions, and write you just the song you were hoping for.
